Bio

Dr. Cathy Thomas is a creative writer and scholar invested in womanist and black feminist pedagogy, practice, critique, and play. She studies Afrodiasporic Literature across genres, especially speculative fiction, comic books, and science & technology studies., Caribbean and Caribbean diasporic literature & culture. She looks at the role of race, gender, and social history in cosplay and carnival events, spaces, practices. Her work agitates against androcentric modernity and antiblack humanism. She received her PhD in Literature at University of California at Santa Cruz and her MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Thomas has an appointment in the English Department and is affiliated with Latin American and Iberian Studies.
